Honoring the Legacy of Professor Alfredo Testa
PMAPS 2026 will host a special tribute during the Gala Dinner to honor the remarkable career and outstanding contributions of Professor Alfredo Testa, a distinguished scholar whose work significantly advanced the fields of power quality, power system analysis, and probabilistic methods applied to electric power systems.
Professor Testa was Emeritus Professor at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli,” where he devoted more than four decades to education, research, and academic leadership. Throughout his distinguished career, he made pioneering contributions to the modeling, measurement, and analysis of waveform distortion and power quality phenomena, helping establish methodologies that became widely recognized within the international power engineering community.
Over the course of his academic career, Professor Testa authored and co-authored more than 300 scientific papers published in leading international journals and conference proceedings. His research influenced generations of researchers and practitioners, while his dedication to teaching and mentorship inspired countless students and young engineers.
Professor Testa played a central role in the international PMAPS community, serving as Chair of the PMAPS International Society from 2016. Through his leadership, he strengthened the Society’s global network, promoted international collaboration, and supported the continued advancement of probabilistic methods for the planning and operation of modern power systems.
Professor Testa’s scientific excellence was recognized through numerous prestigious honors, including elevation to IEEE Fellow in 2008 for his contributions to the modeling, measurement, and analysis of waveform distortion in power systems. He also held leadership positions within IEEE, CIGRE, IEC, and numerous international technical committees, where his expertise contributed to the development of standards and best practices adopted worldwide. His legacy lives on through his scientific achievements, international leadership, and the many colleagues, researchers, and engineers who continue to build upon his vision and dedication to excellence in power systems engineering.
